Rhinoplasty and a chin implant together can make a big difference in an individual’s profile. Both procedures can be done separately or together. I have seen patients come in for a rhinoplasty to reduce the size of the nose thinking it would help with the profile. However, on closer inspection it appeared that a small chin was the only issue. In those cases a chin implant alone would suffice in improving the profile. During the consultation chin implant sizers can be placed on the chin and covered by tape to give you an idea of what to expect post operatively. You can always proceed with a chin implant to improve the overall profile and make a determination after the complete healing if you still need a rhinoplasty.
Rhinoplasty and chin augmentation are quite complimentary at times. Some of the most drastic makeovers are a result of simultaneous rhinoplasty and chin augmentation which not only changes the profile, but the facial aesthetic appearance from all angles. Typically these can be done at the same time. Many young individuals who undergo these procedures experience a tremendous boost in their self-esteem.
Sometimes patients want to know the order of both surgical procedures. As a matter of principal, any clean procedure is always done first. A chin implant is considered to be a clean procedure compared to rhinoplasty and hence has to be done first. Since the nostrils carry bacteria, a rhinoplasty is not considered to be as clean as chin implant procedure.
