Browlift or Blepharoplasty

The heaviness of upper eyelids can be fixed in two different ways; Browlift vs. Blepharoplasty.

Browlift is the surgical procedure that lifts up the eyebrows and hence the skin of the upper eyelids is stretched superiorly and opens up the eyes. Blepharoplasty just removes the excess skin directly from the upper eyelid.

It is important to diagnose the problem first. If the brows sit below the superior orbital rim (bony edge) then browlift is warranted, if the brows are on the rim or especially if they are above the rim then blepharoplasty should be recommended.

In some cases both procedures might be needed as the brows are low and there is so much excess skin that even a browlift will not completely reduce the heavy upper eyelids.
